Nothing to lose

Let's call him the rabbit.

The rabbit is an older story of mine. We've been working together for some time, and I haven't quite figured him out so far.

Moreover, he has such a shocking way of pushing everyone away whomever tries to approach him, that one has to just quit ever trying anything near to that.

Why I was still trying, after hitting against this wall of indifference for one too many times, I don't really know. Maybe it's my unshakable belief in discovering the beautiful and good in people.

Fact is, today I talked to him about it, and I am afraid I came over somewhat differently than I wished.

What I wanted to tell him was I wanted to get to know him better.

That I sometimes have the feeling that we could be friends.
That you don't have anything to lose if you reveal some things about yourself.
That beginnings are sometimes harsh, and you have to take some risks, but they are always worth it. Even if you should turn out wrong.
That the people you know and the friends you make throughout your life are everything you are left with in the end.
That I think there is something worth loving in everyone and that discovering that one thing is the most accomplishing feeling you can have in life.

What I actually told him was that I thought he was interesting, although the most introverted person I know.

"If I am so introverted and never talk to you, how can you tell I'm interesting?"

Which brings us to the end of this part: never try to outrun a rabbit. He will always run faster than you can speak out your mind.

Falling - stories of myself and others

When the first thing you do in the morning is smile,
When your dreams turn out to be quite different than you wished,
When you can't look one in the eye and be serious,
When you see one and can't help but smiling,
When right and wrong become relative and you can't figure out which is which,
When you turn red out of the blue,
When you dress up for no occasion whatsoever,
When you feel like a teenager wanting to dance on the street,
When the perspective to meet one brightens up your entire day,
When you feel like "where have you been my whole life so far?"
When you stop worrying about the future, because the present is so gorgeous,
When you lose 10 pounds and have no idea why,
When you forget about writing to your friends, and when you do, you write but of one thing,
When you drift away in silences - you know one will understand,
When your life motto becomes "We live in the best of all worlds",
When the world is your friend and savior,

DUDE, go to sleep, you're very very drunk!

Bearing change

There is irony, sarcasm and criticism everywhere around us. It has become of bon ton to be dis-contempt, to see the dark and the dirty, to generalize the ugly until it covers all.

Romania is dirty, the Romanians are stupid, we have little to be proud of, change doesn't begin with one person, we are all caught up in a vicious circle, the world economy is going to hell (for once, I agree). We have little chances to achieve anything and we'd better all run away and hide.

Criticism is somewhat the easiest way out, just like feeling miserable is much more comfortable and requires less guts than feeling happy.

Still, a tranquil underground movement starts to make its way out to the surface. You can see bits of it on the street, in subways, in trains, at concerts and shows.

Just pay attention and you'll see there's a whole new young generation emerging. They dress freshly, unconventionally, communicate easily, have wide-ranging and cosmopolitan interests.

If you travel by train, you will see more and more people reading. Drifting away in their imagination, being silent and discrete, holding a book on their knees. In subways, young people hanging by one hand in an precarious equilibrium, holding a book with the other. Smiling remotely.

You see cosmopolitan young people who have seen the world and bring fresh new ideas into their homes. You also see a new generation of professionals who educated themselves to be the best and strive for excellency.

Teenagers holding the door for you when you are heavily loaded with groceries. Saying thank hello and thank you with a smile. Wanting to be better people.

It's not a movement of the masses yet, maybe it's just a niche effect that I noticed on my roads through the City and my more extended way through life. But still, I have hope that a fresh new generation, not bearing the sins of our past, able to bear change and brave enough to face happiness and beauty, has emerged and carries within the seeds of a new world.

May they keep their enthusiasm and teach us to share it too!

LE: On the other hand, my own generation has kept much of its enthusiasm within. If you don't believe me, check out this, this, this, this, this and many many others.

Being other people's balancing soul

...came up today in a discussion with the ant:

"The maximum of of unbalance we can support in other people is our own amount of unbalance. More than that will frighten us." - by bob.

and

"We carry along this huge amount of inexplicable fears, no matter how brave we regularly are. Still, some overwhelming passions can make you forget about all fears and do astonishing things."- by the ant.

I missed the ant who can bring up such irresistible thoughts in herself and others.

Bear blogs

Most blogs I know and read consciously are braked all through the summertime. It's like, just like their writers, they suffer from heat and dryness. If bears hibernate during winter time, blogs hibernate in summer.

Meeting Andrei over the last days, we concluded: not really dead, but some kind of brain-dead are our blogs at the time.

PS. The eagle's back. More to come.

Ghost town

I guess this is how ghosts must feel like - if ghosts are, as I want them to be, capable of feelings.

You quit one world and then you go back to manage a smooth departure, but there's something strange in you being there. It's like the universe is set and done and you are disturbing it by your mere presence. You don't really fit in here anymore, and they are embarrassed and don't know what to say when meeting you. People pass you without actually seeing you, because they long agreed with your passing on.

Sometimes it's actually funny being talked to as a ghost. Because people only want to ask you about your departure, as that's the only thing that really interests them. But as the departure is taboo for a ghost, they talk around it, about weather and stuff.

Fact is, I'm a friendly ghost after all. I didn't come back to haunt anyone, just hanging around and smiling to people. A Harry-Potter-Ghost, if you want, still part of this world as I still feel linked to it. Maybe that's why people smile back, although they don't feel connected after all.

And luckily, there are still the pets who know how to talk to ghosts.

Missing

"Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation."

For the past two months, I lived to being a different person too. And you know what? Most people didn't even see a difference.

Which makes me wonder: why do we all try so much to be loved, when in fact it's not a function of ourselves, but of the disposition of those who love?

Missing today: the mouse and the deer and the ant and the monkey. It's been a long time since I blogged about them.

Newsflash

Today I feel like dancing.
Join?

LE: Let's dance to this:

"I've got you under my skin.
I've got you deep in the heart of me.
So deep in my heart that you're really a part of me.
I've got you under my skin.
I'd tried so not to give in.
I said to myself: this affair never will go so well.
But why should I try to resist when, baby, I know so well
I've got you under my skin?"

(Frank Sinatra - "I've got you under my skin")

Song

For forbidden feelings. Guess....

PS - Special thanx to the turtle, for throwing Norah Jones at me.

Quotes for today

There is always some madness in love. But there is also always some reason in madness. - Friedrich Nietzsche

It does not matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop. - Confucius

For my oldest and my newest friend

Raindrops keep fallin' on my head
But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turnin' red,
Cryin's not for me',
Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complainin'
Because I'm free,
Nothin's worryin' me!

(B.J. Thomas - Raindrops keep falling on my head)

My dears, here's to you who filled my life with beauty.

Geometry

Of all shapes that exist, I always thought the circle to be the most horrible.

It has no beginning, no end, there's no escape, it's self-sufficient and boring, you can't lean on it, it's slippery, it's closed, it's way too easy to deal with it (hell, you can just roll it over and that's it!).

I sincerely think that the circle is the most unimaginative shape there is. Hell, even a straight line gives way to more interpretation and dreaming (where does it lead to? is there maybe some line crossing it at some point?) than the odious circle.

Similarly, I guess people talk about circles when they feel uptight and confused: we are running in circles here, we're moving in different circles, the circle of life.

Would you have the choice, what shape would describe your life?

Just - second edition

-So, are you guys friends?
-No, we're just dating.

Been there, done that? ;-)

If you're tired of fighting battles with yourself

"Hey hey-
Have you ever danced in the rain
Or thanked the sun
Just for shining- just for shining
Or the sea?
Oh no- take it all in
The world's a show
And yeah, you look much better,
Look much better when you glow."

(Sister Hazel - "Change your mind").

For a dear friend and some of her demons. And for some of my own demons.

Prideandprejudice

There's something about prejudice. Even if you try to fight it, once it's there, it will drag your sense and brains apart.

Then suddenly your mind starts working like a broken watch: still somewhat pretty to look at, but deep down inside you know it's no use, 'cause it looks the same, no matter what time it really is.

And the time is to free ourselves.

Simon said

A quick quote from someone who played a brief but important role in my life, let's call him Simon:

"Can beasts be unbeastly? No.
Can humans be inhuman? Yes."

in original

"Können Tiere untierisch sein? Nein
Können Menschen unmenschlich sein? Ja."

Guess that's what philozoophy is all about.
